Black Butler is a popular manga and anime series that is all about the life of Ciel Phantomhive. He is a 12-year-old British boy who experiences some adventures with his butler, Sebastian Michaelis, in the 19th century, the Victorian age.

The story of Ciel Phantomhive is quite tragic, as he lost his parents in a fire at the age of ten. He himself was kidnapped by the sect responsible and abused for a month for occult ceremonies. This understandably triggered a great hatred in the boy and he summoned a demon with whom he promptly made a contract. This contract said that from now on the demon should render faithful service to Ciel, should never lie to him and should serve him as protection and weapon in his revenge campaign. As a reward, the demon should receive Ciel’s soul at the end, when the revenge is complete. Ciel Phantomhive gives the demon the name Sebastian Michaelis, where the first name in the name of his dog is inspired.

Left to his own devices early on, Ciel Phantomhive had to learn quickly to take care of the family business on his own and also carries out assignments for the Queen from time to time as the “Queen’s watchdog”.

She is an absolutely clumsy housemaid with a sensitive visual impairment – she is extremely farsighted. But this makes her an excellent markswoman. She has even worked as a professional killer.
Tanaka
He was the butler of Ciel Phantomhive’s father. Although at first glance he is only depicted as a small man who drinks a lot of tea and seems harmless, he has a great knowledge of the Phantomhive family and is also a great help in Ciel’s missions as a master of the katana.
Snake
The contortionist in Noah’s Ark Circus was taken in by Ciel as a lackey in the household, as he had lost his home in a lost fight. He has accompanied the Earl ever since.

Character of Ciel Phantomhive

Ciel has a very cold attitude towards life, certainly because of his terrible and traumatic experiences. He shows himself to be proud, suppresses even the smallest laughter and generally stirs up his hatred. Before the death of his parents and his own abduction and subsequent abuse, however, he was a happy child with a carefree life.

His relationship with Butler Sebastian Michaelis, the Black Butler, is quite conflictual. He is also annoyed when Michaelis jokes in serious situations, because he misses any sense for it. Nevertheless, the two stick together like glue and Ciel actually likes Sebastian very much, but of course he won’t admit it.

Look of Ciel Phantomhive

Ciel is petite and finely built and appears almost feminine. His hair is dark and he has a light blue eye. The right eye is usually covered with an eye patch, because there the sign of the pact with Sebastian Michaelis is clearly visible.

He wears a blue ear stud in each ear. In general, he looks incredibly similar to his father, Vincent Phantomhive, and it is especially mentioned that the nose is identical.

The clothes of Ciel Phantomhive are very expensive and elegant, in keeping with his origin. Although the shape is striking, the colors are rather muted, i.e. black, gray, blue, brown or green. The shape is extravagant in that he uses lots of frills, fringes and accessories. Important in this context is the golden ring on Daniel’s right middle finger. This is a family heirloom of the Phantomhives, which he likes to show often. The shoes usually have a slightly higher heel to make it look bigger than it actually is. This is because for his age he is rather small and slender.
